How to Maximize Your Time at Work

Have you ever left the office feeling unaccomplished? Time doesn’t just fly when you’re having fun. It also slips by when you procrastinate. Below are three tips on how to make the most of your time at work:

Create a To-Do List Before You Leave the Office Each Day

Take 10 minutes at the end of each workday to write down what needs to be accomplished the next day.  The daily duties of Human Resources and many other fields are often unpredictable, so you may not be able to stick to the tasks written the evening before. Creating a fresh to-do list can serve as a reminder of what needs to be completed the next day or before the end of the week. You can also use the list as a way to track your daily accomplishments.

Take 5-Minute Mental Breaks Each Hour

How much time do you spend on your cell phone at work? Can you keep track of the number of times that you check your inbox or Instagram feed? It is easy to get distracted. One Instagram notification can turn into 30 minutes of mindless scrolling. Setting aside time for mental breaks will prevent you from going overboard with screen time at the office. Use the time to check your phone, read a short article, or step outside for fresh air.

Finish One Task Before Starting Another

Don’t open 20 tabs to start your day. If you have a big project that can’t be completed in one workday, create time blocks for each task and rotate them every 30 minutes. If you are struggling with the next steps of a project, close it out, take a break, and start something new.
